Hi. Here’s 5 point updates about what’s happening with COVID-19 in India and across the world.

1. India records a single-day spike of nearly 70,000 new COVID-19 cases 😰
India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 28,36,925 on Thursday morning as 69,652 new cases were reported in 24 hours. The death toll increased by 977 to 53,866, according to latest government data.

3. Nearly five million salaried people lost their jobs in July ☹️
According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the number of jobs lost in July take the total number of jobs lost in the category to 18.9 million despite recovery in the overall employment rate. Earlier, the CMIE had estimated a loss of 121.5 million jobs in April, the first month of lockdown.

4. Thousands attend pool party in Wuhan 🎉
“The crowded party scene remains unthinkable in many parts of the world still grappling with the deadly virus. More than 21 million people have been infected across the globe, with tens of thousands of new cases reported every day in the United States, Brazil and India. But in Wuhan, life has gradually returned to normal since the metropolis of 11 million people in Hubei province lifted a stringent 76-day lockdown in early April.” — CNN
